The butterfly valve is a simple structural flow control valve that can be used to control the flow of various types of fluids, including air, water, steam, corrosive media, slurry, oil, liquid metals, and radioactive materials. It mainly works as throttling devices to control the flow of fluids in pipelines. The valve disc acts as an opening & closing element to regulate the flow by rotating around its own axis inside.
Compared to other valves, butterfly valves are better to be made with larger diameter. This is because, under the same diameter as other types of valves, butterfly valves have a smaller size, lighter weight, lower cost and are easier to operate. Therefore, as the diameter becomes larger, butterfly valves become more advantageous.
