What is an investment casting process?
Investment casting is based on one of the oldest known metal-forming techniques and produces near-net-shape precision parts that usually require few finishing details. The investment casting process involves pouring molten metal into a mold that has been created using a wax model. Once the mold is made, the wax model is melted and drained away. Hollow cores can be affected by using a heat-proof core that prevents the molten metal from totally filling the mold.
What are the investment casting materials?
More than 200 alloys, including stainless steel, carbon steel, tool steel, copper, nickel, and high-temperature alloys.
What is the largest casting size you can produce?
Diameter from 3mm to 1m
Thickness from 1mm to 30mm.
What is investment casting used for?
Investment casting is often used to manufacture complex shapes that require tighter tolerances.
What is the main advantage of using a investment casting?
- Investment casting creates precision products with high dimensional and geometric accuracy.
The dimensional accuracy of melt mold castings can reach level 4-6 of GBT 6414-2017, and the surface roughness reaches Ra6.3-12.5μm, which can greatly reduce the cutting and machining of the castings, and even achieve the casting of no allowance. - Mass precise production for castings with complex shapes
- Unlimited alloy materials Various alloy materials, such as carbon structural steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, bi-directional stainless steel, nickel-based alloys as well as casting of high-temperature alloys, magnesium alloys, titanium alloys and so on.
- High production flexibility and adaptability

Investment casting is a precision casting process. To ensure quality and accuracy, it is important to consider:
- Providing accurate design drawings with complete annotations.
- Clearly identifying the casting supply method and matters related to mold storage, usage, and maintenance.
- Confirming processing materials and other data such as specifications.
- Upon initial completion of processing, the investment casting foundry provides samples to casting purchasers, who then conduct dimensional checks, assemblies, and tests if necessary.
- After testing, the investment casting foundry can proceed with large-scale production.
